Booking tickets in a railway station has never been simpler. From the filling up of a simple form which will be explained thoroughly in the latter part of this article, to paying the fare amount over the counter to the person who collects that amount for the purpose of booking one a railway ticket, either one way or a return ticket, or multiple tickets, for that matter, at the snap of a finger; by this, it refers to the ease and simplicity that this process is done.

When the term one way ticket, like the song ‘one way ticket to the moon’ was one of the most popular tracks of all time, the same applies to railway booking terminology as well. Though technically one cannot get a one way ticket to the moon or in the solar space (except if there are options of a return ticket via a space shuttle), there can be many a ticket booked at a railways station to just about any destination within the country; in this case, India. Whilst the concept of subways exist famously over the globe, in prominent nations like the United States of America and the United Kingdom, to name two of the most prominent nations, that concept of freeway trains or subway trains and even interconnecting trains within a city has reached popular heights in India as well.

To book a railway ticket to any destination, one simply has to carefully fill out a form with related questions to destination from and to the travel place and the age, berth or seat preference, date, name of the person or persons travelling to that destination, and by return ticket, it refers to an all-round trip, going and coming back to the place of origin, which is termed or referred to as a return ticket! The form contains thin sheet or sheets of paper, which acts as a booking platform for any ticket. Destinations and the trains or the names of the trains that travel to the desired destinations are all mentioned in boards or electrical boards / which resemble a television screen at all times in the railway station. One needs to mention the name or the choice of train that one desires to travel on. Once that is done, the form is submitted and the ticket is then marked and provided to the person, depending on the availability of the tickets. (if not, the person is on a wait-list).

Railway booking offices are convenient avenues and places to book a railway ticket. Booking of railways tickets are done with ease when they are done through and via properly functional, railway booking registered offices or then through travel agents. These are two age old ways and methods to book tickets. Of course, first came the concept of direct booking only via the railway station, and that too, there were large chances that the major and the frequent destination bookings were only possible via the railway stations, that to the centralized and the main ones. This made it impossible or rather close to impossible to get a ticket with ease, unless one stood in the long lines and queues of the stations for the purpose of booking or reservations.

Then came the concept of easier booking via the presence of multiple booking offices for airlines and railways across the various cities of a country and towns as well. This made booking easy for anyone and everyone. There came, next, the internet! The advent of the internet has never been questioned, as the internet has only done and got wonders into the workings and the functions of the various aspects of a person’s life, work and travel! Just about any topic can be scrolled and searched via the internet!

Without a doubt, the internet technology has proved to be an impactful and a useful one! The internet has displaced the efforts of a physical human activity to a large extent (except the activity involving the time, inclination and energy in online transactions and viewing/researching). But yet, with or without the displacement of human effort to a great extent, there still is the presence and the prominence of a railway booking office or then a booking agent of sorts! The offices help in a more conventional way of booking, and it aids a person to be able to book with ease and without the possible discomfort of having to wait in large queues and lines, like it would have been at a station / railway station if one had to use that avenue to book a ticket or multiple tickets. The identification of the individual who is making the booking, the form filling and the general requirements of a reservation is needed and post that, the tickets are booked, reserved and ready to travel on! For more, read and view this website!

The Methods of Booking or Reserving Railway Tickets

The method of booking a railway ticket has been mentioned and a dekho of the same has been exhibited on this website. This website serves a person well in the lines or the field of railway ticket booking and reservations, as well as needed information on the lines of railways and tickets related. The method of booking railways tickets can be done via the internet, through websites and reliable portals, as well as via a railway station or an office that is registered for railway bookings or reservations.

The methods comprise the following:

1. Online booking: This is done by marking the needed details on the website page of a reliable and a known website for booking a railway ticket or tickets. Once the form is filled virtually, then the process of punching in one’s credit card details will aid the process of booking or reserving tickets to the respective destination of travel. After the check and the process are done, the eticket serves as a ticket for the destination desired.

2. Railway stations are easy places to go and book tickets. Information is provided to one via the boards present which give information related to trains, names, destinations and more. Once information is received and cross checked, the person goes ahead and fills out a form with details and submits it with cash to book a ticket. Of course, if there are no seats available, then the person is put on a list which is called a call waiting list.

3. Railways have offices that can act as a means for booking as well. This can be done via railways offices or travel agents that will deal with the reservations of a ticket or multiple tickets and they receive a commission on their bookings.

These are popular manners and methods of booking tickets for any railways travel intended. It is essential to be careful whist booking a ticket, and this works mainly in exhibiting caution whilst booking or reserving a ticket or multiple tickets for travel online, via the use of online websites and domains. It is imperative to choose a reliable website like makemytrip.com for instance, (used as an example for travel choice website). This website gives one an edge in the information and the insights that one requires or is looking to gain online. Keep glued on to this array of information on this website!

Booking Offices or Online Reservations- Popularity Poll

The popularity poll between booking offices and online reservations fall in the favour of online reservations. In today’s busy lifestyles that people lead, it is essential or rather imperative that one has to have options online as there is a lot that is saved with the presence of reliable online domains or portals: what is saved is one’s energy, one’s time and other aspects related.

Whilst booking offices and travel agents are an old and a reliable answer to any query and reservation required for any conceivable destination of sorts, the truth is that the travel, the commuting and the communication time are more than what it would be, if one visited a wonderfully reliable website such as this one for information requirements, and if one visited good and known online sites for booking via the use of a credit card.

The internet world has become so vast and so much can be got via the internet that it is no surprise why sites are doing so well and are increasing in their own edge and competitiveness to great degrees and it is no surprise that the internet is now something that most people cannot imagine living without. The internet is a true boon! A true boon to any person who sits in front of a computer, for you never know, you could come across information, which you can benefit from, even when you are not looking for it!

The booking offices and travel agents concepts have been around for decades. Yes, they are good means and yes, they are reliable. But they are not as quick as going online to and established website and booking a ticket or multiple tickets for any desalination travel. The websites also provide the rates or the fares, as well as information on the details that are relevant to a person’s decision for booking a ticket or tickets to desired destinations of travel! The credit card details are punched in, and after a check and after registration; one has a ticket via an email or on the website! Voila! The process is that simple. The procedure is that convenient! It is a boon to the busy lives of people in this day and age, as mentioned earlier on in this article. The process of online reservations of tickets is a good and an efficient one and is a trend of today!

Bookings for the Indian railway have smoothened out so well that anyone can book a ticket easily for long or short distance traveling. For short distances the price of the railway ticket is mentioned on each of the ticket counters known as windows. So one can exact change when he or she has to purchase the ticket.

For long distance travel a hand booklet of the ticket prices and the destinations are available. Else one can always inquire from the season ticket window. Rail passes are available for short distance travel so that one does not have to bother standing in the ticket queue for a long time. There are monthly and quarterly passes available which when totalled sum up lesser than what you would pay, every time to purchase a ticket. Hence inducing the commuter to book a pass for a longer period of time.

There are ticket ATMs and Smart Cards available to smoothen out the queue processes. But for long distance travel, you have to stand in the season window to purchase a ticket. A person can book up to 6 reservations and the same will replicate on the ticket for people traveling between the same destinations.

Tourists can avail of the Indrail pass that allows them to commute anywhere in India by railways. This is for the convenience of the tourist. Bending the rules, the railways have been considerate for Senior Citizens who get a 30% discount on their reserved tickets. They even get a discount on the short distances in a city. The same is carried for students, disabled and High-ranking government officials.

Reserved tickets can be cancelled at the last minute if the person faces some kind of an emergency. A refund is given to the commuters according to the date of cancellation and the date of travel unlike other transportations like airlines where the entire amount in non-refundable.

If you have an emergency and need a ticket on a packed train, then you get on the waiting list or through Tatkal service. Once there is a cancellation, you can board the train. For unreserved tickets, the general compartment is also a boon, where there is a separate ladies and gent’s compartment.
